Plenty of room for innovation
When it comes to economic strength, the district of Böblingen has been at the top for years. To enable companies to flourish, the economic development agency provides optimal conditions.
The district of Böblingen is one of the most innovative districts in Germany. For example, it is ranked sixth out of all 400 independent cities and districts in Germany in the Prognos Institute's Future Atlas. The institute examines the attractiveness of local location factors every three years. The economic success of the district is based on a healthy mix, as both corporations and small and medium-sized companies find ideal conditions here. This diversity is characterized by the automotive industry and its suppliers as well as the IT sector.
Excellent infrastructure, generous building areas - this is what characterizes the industrial estates in the district
"The district of Böblingen is constantly growing as an economically strong location," says District Administrator Roland Bernhard. In doing so, he also acknowledges the work of the district's economic development department, which always strives to create the best possible conditions for construction projects in the district's industrial estates. Generously sized plots of land benefit from an extensive infrastructure and good public transport connections. The district's economic development agency is a partner to the local authorities in many respects. Whether in the Leo West industrial estate directly at the Leonberg-West freeway junction, the Westlich Bauhof industrial estate in Waldenbuch, the Röte industrial estate in Grafenau or the Häslach industrial estate in Sindelfingen: The commitment of the local authorities to the economy in the district is just as wide-ranging as it is successful.
Lighthouse projects Flugfeld and INGpark
Two projects that particularly stand out here are the Böblingen/Sindelfingen airfield and the INGpark. In the case of the latter, seven municipalities have joined forces to form the Intercommunal Industrial and Commercial Park Nagold Gäu (INGpark) in order to develop an 89-hectare area on the Nagold iceberg. The land is located on a ridge between Nagold and Jettingen. The former barracks site with its 26 hectares has already been marketed, to the east of which is a fully developed industrial and commercial area of around 63 hectares. Around a third of this area has already been marketed and around ten hectares have been reserved. Around 15.5 hectares are currently still available. So far, around 55 companies from various sectors such as environmental technology, plastics processing, communication services, timber construction, mechanical engineering, printing technology and optics have settled in the INGpark. Various craft businesses complement this diverse mix, and more than 1,200 jobs have been created here in total.
Another lighthouse project is the Böblingen/Sindelfingen airfield. As an inter-municipal urban development project, it closes the spatial gap between the two cities. Three quarters of the area is reserved for trade and industry. The airfield has been under development since 2006. To date, around 2,700 people have been employed here in innovative and high-tech companies from the automotive, IT, electronics, hydraulics and pharmaceutical industries, as well as mechanical engineering companies. By the final phase of the expansion, 7,000 jobs are expected to be located here. The new Flugfeldklinikum building will lay the foundation for a modern medical center for the entire region - another flagship for the economic and innovative strength of the Böblingen district.
